Rangers Linked with Move for Jordan Henderson Amid Midfield Reinforcement Plans

Rangers are exploring midfield options this summer and have been linked with experienced Ajax midfielder and former Liverpool captain Jordan Henderson.

As speculation grows, injury specialist Dr Rajpal Brar has evaluated the 34-year-old’s physical condition, noting that the England international appears to be in strong shape as he completes his first full year in the Eredivisie.

Henderson Expected to Pass Any Medical

According to Dr Brar, Henderson should comfortably pass a pre-transfer medical. While the midfielder has dealt with minor injuries throughout his career, none are considered serious or likely to raise concerns during an assessment.

Henderson featured in 28 league matches last season and missed only one due to injury — a sign of solid overall fitness. Dutch journalist Mike Verweij reported on 25 May that both Rangers and Sunderland are interested in the 82-cap international.

Speaking to Ibrox News, Dr Brar explained:

“He’s had a few minor issues, nothing unusual, though the club may want to review any recurring problems. They’ll also consider potential warning signs linked to age, workload, and competitive demands. But I see no red flags that would prevent him from passing a medical.”

Dr Brar added that while Henderson is naturally past his physical peak, Rangers would factor that into any decision.

A Potential Short-Term Asset for Rangers

If Rangers choose to pursue the move, Henderson could serve as a valuable short-term addition. Although he turns 35 next season, his vast experience — including Premier League and Champions League success with Liverpool — would add maturity and leadership to the squad.

His years as Liverpool captain demonstrate the influence he could bring to a group seeking greater control in high-pressure matches, particularly in tight title races against rivals such as Celtic.

Even if his pace has declined, Henderson’s positional understanding, work ethic, and tactical discipline remain key strengths.

As Rangers continue to reshape their squad following recent ownership changes, the midfielder could provide stability, mentorship for younger players, and composure in domestic and European competitions.
