Rangers Linked with Move for Jordan Henderson Amid Midfield Reinforcement Plans

Rangers are exploring midfield options this summer and have been linked with experienced Ajax midfielder and former Liverpool captain Jordan Henderson.

Injury specialist Dr Rajpal Brar has evaluated the fitness of the 34-year-old as speculation around a potential transfer intensifies. Currently playing in the Eredivisie, the England international appears to be in good shape.

According to Dr Brar, Henderson should pass a pre-transfer medical without complications. Despite having dealt with various minor injuries throughout his career, none are considered serious or concerning in the context of a medical assessment.

Henderson featured in 28 league matches last season, missing only one due to injury, suggesting solid overall fitness. Dutch outlet De Telegraaf journalist Mike Verweij reported on 25 May that both Rangers and Sunderland are showing interest in signing the 82-cap international.

Speaking to Ibrox News, Dr Brar, a physical therapist and sports scientist, explained:

“He’s had a few minor issues, nothing unusual, though the club may want to review any recurring problems. They’ll also consider potential warning signs linked to age, workload, and competitive demands. But I see no red flags that would prevent him from passing a medical.”

Brar added that while Henderson is clearly past his physical peak, Rangers would be fully aware of that factor when considering a move.

A Potential Short-Term Asset for Rangers

If Rangers move forward, Henderson could be a valuable short-term addition. Though he’ll turn 35 next season, his vast experience — including Premier League and Champions League triumphs with Liverpool — could boost the club’s domestic and European ambitions.

His leadership qualities, proven through years as Liverpool captain, would bring composure and drive to a squad under pressure from fierce rivals like Celtic. Even if his speed has declined, Henderson’s tactical nous, work ethic, and midfield control remain influential attributes.

While not a long-term fix, his presence could strengthen the squad during a transitional phase following the club’s recent ownership change, offering mentorship to younger players and a steadying influence on the pitch.
