49ers Closing in on First Summer Signing After Sealing Rangers Takeover
Following the official confirmation of their takeover, 49ers Enterprises are now stepping up their efforts to secure their first summer signing for Rangers — a highly sought-after defender.
Rangers Takeover Finalised by 49ers Enterprises
After months of anticipation, Rangers have announced that a consortium led by Andrew Cavenagh and backed by 49ers Enterprises has officially completed its takeover of the club. According to a statement on the club’s website, the new ownership group has pledged an investment of £20 million, pending shareholder approval in the coming month.
Paraag Marathe, a senior figure at 49ers Enterprises, expressed his enthusiasm about the project at Ibrox:
“At 49ers Enterprises, our success has always stemmed from our commitment to both sport and community. We’re thrilled to be joining Andrew and the rest of the group in launching a new chapter for this legendary club. Our goal is to build something meaningful that fans can take pride in for years to come.”
Andrew Cavenagh added:
“We’re honoured by the faith shown in us by the Rangers board, shareholders, staff, and supporters. This club’s proud traditions speak volumes, but history alone doesn’t win matches. Our focus is clear: raise standards, produce results, and return Rangers to the summit of Scottish football.”
New Era, New Manager Needed
As the new leadership era begins, the club’s immediate priority is appointing a new manager. Recent speculation has linked Davide Ancelotti with the vacancy, but it remains uncertain which direction the board will take.
49ers Eye Almamy Toure as First Signing
While the managerial search is ongoing, reports suggest the 49ers are also pushing ahead with their first transfer target. According to Africa Foot, via Sport Witness, the club is advancing talks to sign Almamy Toure on a free transfer. The 29-year-old centre-back is set to leave Kaiserslautern this summer upon the expiry of his contract.
A seasoned Mali international, Toure is attracting interest from several clubs, including Genoa in Italy, Turkey’s Trabzonspor, and MLS side Philadelphia Union. Should Rangers manage to beat the competition, it would mark a strong opening move for the new ownership group.
Bringing in Toure would give the club’s incoming manager a solid foundation in defence, aiding Rangers’ efforts to reclaim dominance from rivals Celtic in the Scottish Premiership.
